Stay Vigilant: Phishing Attack Targeting Askews Legal Clients

Cybercrime continues to be a growing threat, and we want to ensure our clients remain protected. We have been made aware of a targeted phishing attack where a third party has created a domain name similar to ours – askewslequal – in an attempt to impersonate Askews Legal.
This tactic, known as typo-squatting, is used by fraudsters to mislead recipients into thinking they are communicating with a trusted organisation. Their goal is to deceive clients into making payments to fraudulent accounts or sharing sensitive information.
Our IT security team has investigated the situation and confirmed that our systems remain secure. However, attackers are using deceptive methods to send fraudulent emails that may contain fake bank details or misleading payment instructions.
We have reported the fraudulent domain and are actively monitoring the situation. This appears to be a highly organised scam, with fraudulent bank accounts and companies set up specifically for this purpose.
During this busy period, please take extra care when receiving emails, particularly those requesting payments or confidential details. Cybercriminals are becoming increasingly sophisticated, so it’s important to stay alert.
1. Verify all emails carefully
Be cautious with any unexpected messages, even if they appear to come from Askews Legal. If something seems unusual, always verify before acting.
2. Confirm payment details
If you are discussing financial transactions, call the recipient directly to confirm details before making any payments. Do not rely solely on email instructions.
3. Strengthen your email security
To enhance security, we recommend:
- Changing your email password if you receive any suspicious messages.
- Enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on your email account for added protection.
- Being cautious of any emails requesting financial details or urgent action.
4. Forward suspicious emails for review
If you receive an email that raises concerns, do not click on any links or open attachments. Instead, flag it for investigation. This helps prevent fraudulent activity and protects others.
OUR BANK DETAILS WILL NOT CHANGE
Our bank details remain the same and will never be changed via email. If you ever receive an email claiming otherwise, assume it is fraudulent and contact us directly.
We take this matter seriously and are working closely with our IT security partners to monitor and address this fraudulent activity. If you have any concerns or believe you have received a suspicious email, please reach out to us immediately.
Your security is our priority, and by working together, we can prevent cybercriminals from succeeding.
