Emma Gridley
Emma is a Hybrid Secretary within the Care Team at Askews Legal, bringing a wealth of administrative expertise spanning over three decades. Having begun her legal career in 1985, Emma has gained experience across most practice areas but has found her true niche in Public Law over the last 15 years.
Experience and Support In her current role, Emma provides crucial support to the Head of the Care Team, James Walthall, while assisting the wider department to ensure seamless case management. She is known for her ability to build strong, trusting relationships with both clients and professional contacts. Emma understands that clients in care proceedings often face the most challenging circumstances of their lives; she prides herself on offering an outstanding service that puts them at ease while taking immediate, effective action to assist them. Emma assists the Head of Care, by taking notes behind Counsel at Court, obtaining instructions from clients for statements, and drafting pleadings under James’ supervision.
Career Highlight A significant highlight of Emma’s career occurred in early 2025, when she attended the Royal Courts of Justice for a high-profile appeal hearing. The case, which was streamed live, involved Leading and Junior Counsel for all parties. Emma played a key role in assisting the team during the hearing, where they successfully represented the Children’s Guardian in an appeal against a Circuit Judge’s decision.
Outside the Office Away from her desk, Emma enjoys unwinding with music and film. She has a keen eye for nature photography and loves spending time outdoors walking in the countryside with her family.
