Shyam is a Consultant Lawyer within the Litigation department here at Askews Legal. Shyam thoroughly enjoys litigation work as this area of legal work provides an opportunity for him to demonstrate his logical yet creative mindset to advise clients on effective strategies to achieve the best possible outcome for his clients. Shyam likes to handle a diverse range of matters with varying degrees of complexity and contention.

Personal Qualities

Shyam possesses extensive legal qualifications which include a Bachelor of Laws degree, the Bar Professional Training Course, the Legal Professional Course and a Master’s in Professional Legal Practice. Shyam is also an accredited Civil and Commercial Mediator.

Shyam has exceptional advisory skills owing to his ability to quickly grasp the key issues in a matter and research highly technical points of law. Shyam takes a clear and focussed approach to his work, ironing out issues and getting to the heart of any matter instantaneously, so as to provide an efficient and bespoke service. Shyam is very approachable and easily gains the trust of clients with whom he works.

Shyam believes that litigation should be dealt with in a way that takes into consideration wider factors such as the effect of the litigation on his clients’ time, resources and reputation. Shyam appreciates that every situation and circumstance is unique and so Shyam will take the time to get to know his clients and their objectives before advising on the best way forward.

Business Development

Shyam has had the benefit of mooting experience in the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, obtaining a successful outcome after providing submissions in respect of the admissibility of evidence. Shyam has also provided arguments to Members of Parliament with a view to reforming the laws surrounding General Permitted Development Orders.

Shyam also enjoys networking both locally and nationally at various seminars and events. Shyam is also a member of the Lord Denning Society at The Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn.

Career Highlights

Shyam has a very good understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules which has led to excellent results for clients. For example, Shyam was able to obtain a Court Order approving valid service of legal proceedings through Whatsapp where the location of a defendant was unknown.

Shyam has acted for local authorities, businesses and individuals in matters ranging from short interim applications in the County Court through to high-value multi-track claims in the High Court. Shyam is meticulous with both his advisory and drafting work and is able to both bring and defend claims in England and Wales.

Hobbies

Outside of work, Shyam enjoys long drives and walks. Shyam is also aiming to obtain his private pilot’s licence shortly.
