Richard Murray

Solicitor Advocate

Richard is a Solicitor Advocate in our Criminal Defence Department, which means he puts on the wig and gown to defend our clients who are charged with the most serious of offences.

Richard has been a partner in his own practice and Askews Legal LLP has gained from his valuable experience. In his 20 year career, Richard has successfully defended Clients charged with murder, rape, drug dealing and high value fraud as well as less serious matters. In fact, given his years in practice, there are few offences on the statute book that Richard hasn’t had experience of.

His knowledge of the law, coupled with a down to earth style, means that Richard has a great acquittal rate in the cases which he conducts.

Richard has built up a strong reputation for advising Clients upon appeals to the Court of Appeal. He has appeared in the Court of Appeal on numerous occasions, with positive outcomes for the Client.

Richard is also our head Advocate on regulatory matters, including Health and Safety prosecutions, Trade Descriptions and offences under the Companies Act.

When not in Court Richard puts his knowledge and experience to good use advising businesses on how they can grow and sell for the best value.

He has recently taken to cycling and is a keen supportor of Prostate Cancer UK. These two things recently tied up when he rode from London to Amsterdam in aid of the charity, his team raised over £10,000.

When not on the bike, Richard is usually playing taxi driver for one of his 3 girls!

I had a great experience with Askews Solicitors, especially Sumera Ehsan. Sumera supported me through a really stressful time and made everything so much easier to deal with. She worked quickly and efficiently, taking over communication with my employer’s solicitor, which was such a relief. Her proactivity, professionalism and clear guidance eased my stress significantly, and I only wish I had known to reach out to them sooner. I must mention again how quickly Sumera worked to resolve my situation at short notice. I can’t recommend highly enough. Thank you for the excellent service!

Askews was one of the solicitors recommended to us by our estate agent fortheir lead times when we were selling a house. We chose them based on thereviews and were not disappointed. Main dealings were with Paul andKierandeep and everything went smoothly and any questions were answeredquickly. We had a problem with the first completion date a few days beforehandover due to our buyers buyers not being ready which they had notdisclosed but Kierandeep and Paul listened to our concerns and intervenedand it was rescheduled and completed 3 weeks later. Would definitely recommend.
