Gurnam Bains
Gurnam Bains is a Consultant Solicitor with wide array of experience in both Public and Private sector law. Having worked in and managed busy Litigation teams for several Local Authorities for over 10 years, Gurnam has a sound understanding of both Civil and Criminal litigation. Gurnam particularly enjoys his Criminal Prosecution work and is a regular attendee at Court, advocating on Environmental, Fraud, Planning Enforcement and Trading Standards prosecutions.
Gurnam also is well versed in Licensing Law and works as a Legal Advisor to Local Authority licensing teams. This work comprises of providing general day to day advice on Licensing Law, and also as a Legal Advocate at Licensing Hearings and Sub-Committee Hearings. Given his experience in this area, Gurnam is able to provide legal advice and representation to Public and Private sector clients alike.
As Gurnam adopts an analytical approach to the work he undertakes, he is regularly appointed as the Investigating Officer for internal disciplinary investigations and Code of Conduct investigations in relation to elected Councillors.
Over the past 10 years Gurnam has also amassed a thorough understanding of the Education Appeal process, including School Appeal Hearings, Independent Review Panels (School Exclusion Hearings) and School Transport Hearings. Gurnam offers advice and legal representation to parents appealing for a school place, as well as full legal clerking services to Local Authorities. Gurnam is very approachable and strives to ensure that the pressures of an appeal process are alleviated from his clients.
Having worked from a Local Authority perspective for many years, Gurnam is particularly adept at identifying the strengths and weaknesses of an appeal and advising clients accordingly. Gurnam regularly keeps updated with any changes to law and statutory guidance in this field and is regularly asked to provide training on Education Appeals to his Public sector clients.
Gurnam has also more recently become involved in Special Educational Needs law and is able to provide advice on challenges against local authority EHC needs assessments and EHC plans. Advice on statements of SEN and securing suitable provision for children with SEN can also be provided.
Gurnam is fluent in Panjabi and often participates in local sporting projects within the community.
